It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester. The population of the school is average 32–42 students. It is a small sized boarding and day school. The school is primarily known for its basketball program which has developed college and professional players as well as a private college prep school.

Notre Dame Preparatory School was established in 1952 by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. [1]
Notable alumni
- Michael Beasley (1989–) forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team. Beasley declared for the 2008 NBA draft after leading the Big 12 in scoring (26.2) and rebounding (12.4) during his freshman season. He was named the league's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. A first team All-American, Beasley was second in the voting for the 2008 John R. Wooden Award given to college basketball's top player.
- Derrick Caracter (1988–) power forward/center for the Los Angeles Lakers. Transferred to Notre Dame during his junior year.[2]
- Marcus Douthit (1999) Forward-Center who played for the Providence Friars. Douthit was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2004 NBA Draft.[3]
- Paul Harris (1986) – Basketball player for Syracuse University.
