Basil John Douglas Guy VC, DSO (9 May 1882 - 29 December 1956) was an English recipient of the
Victoria Cross , the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Details
He was 18 years old, and a
midshipman in theRoyal Navy during theBoxer Rising inChina when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.crossfire was brought to bear on the
Naval Brigade and there were several casualties. Among those who fell was an able seaman, shot about 50 yards short of cover. Midshipman Guy stopped with him and tried, unsuccessfully, to lift him up, so after bandaging his wound he ran to get help - during this time the enemy were concentrating their fire on the two men. Shortly after Mr. Guy got under cover the stretchers arrived, and he again ran out and helped to bring in the wounded man, who was unfortunately shot again and died before he could be got to safety.Further information
