Dr. Tom Horton was a fictional character on NBC's soap opera Days of our Lives. He was played by Macdonald Carey from 1965 until his death in 1994.

Character's background

Tom was born in the blue-collar family of Horton's in 1910, in Salem. During his high school and college, he was a star at the baseball team. There he met his sweetheart Alice Grayson They married on March 7 1930 in a small church in Salem. They had five children: Tommy, Addie (deceased), Mickey, Bill and Marie. They also raised their grandchildren, Jennifer after her mother was institutionalized. Tom served in World War II, and retired shortly after. He then became a doctor. He built University Hospital Trauma Center, where he became chief of staff. He died in 1994, after spending more than 60 years with Alice.
