Albania n entry in theEurovision Song Contest 2007 , performed in English (although the live version featured lyrics in Albanian) byFrederik Ndoci .The song is a dramatic ballad, with Ndoci pleading with an unnamed power to bring his love back to him. He uses increasingly dramatic imagery to underscore his feelings.
Originally titled "Balada e gurit" ("The Stone Ballad"), and more expressly directed towards God, rather than an unnamed entity, the song won the Albanian
Festivali I Këngës being performed by both Ndoci and his wife Aida as backing vocalist. In the process of shortening the song to the 3-minute length required for Eurovision and translating the lyrics to English, Aida's role was reduced. At the Contest, however, Ndoci performed the first chorus of the song in Albanian.
As Albania had not finished the previous Contest in the top ten, the song was performed in the semi-final. Here, it was performed eleventh (following the
Netherlands 'Edsilia Rombley with "On Top of the World" and precedingDenmark 's DQ with "Drama Queen "). At the close of voting, it had received 49 points, placing 17th in a field of 28 - Albania's worst result to date - thus requiring Albania to qualify from the semi-final at their next Contest appearance.
