"Whitney" is the second studio album by American pop/R&B singer Whitney Houston, released on June 29 1987.

The album became the first by a female artist ever to debut at #1 in the "Billboard" 200, and produced a then-record-equalling four #1 singles from one album. (This record was broken only two months after when Michael Jackson produced a total of five #1 singles from his album "Bad". Even so, "Whitney" is one of only seven albums in history to produce no less than four #1 singles from the same album.) This feat also let Houston to have seven consecutive chart-toppers, counting the three #1 singles from her previous, sophomore album, and the four from "Whitney", a record previously held by The Beatles and the Bee Gees.

The album also went nine times platinum (certified by RIAA) and stayed in the pole position for a lengthy eleven weeks. Houston's record still stands today. To date the album has sold over 9 million copies in U.S., over 2.2 million copies in UK and over 20 million copies worldwide. "Whitney" was also the first album by a foreign female singer to sell over a million copies in Italy and Taiwan.
