30 July 1903 –14 November 1968 ) was an Americanjazz alto saxophonist born inDanbury, CT , perhaps best-known for leading thesaxophone section from 1940-1949 in theCab Calloway band. Jefferson is said to have been "a soft, delicate saxophone player, with an exquisite sensibility." In the 1950s he continued to perform, especially withRex Stewart and some former members of theFletcher Henderson band.References
