George Richardson VC (
August 1 ,1831 -January 28 ,1923 ) was born in Derrylane, Killyshandra,County Cavan and was an Irish recipient of theVictoria Cross , the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.Details
He was 27 years old, and a private in the
34th Regiment (later The Border Regiment) ,British Army during theIndian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.On
27 April 1859 atKewane Trans-Gogra ,India , Private Richardson, although severely wounded in one arm, closed with and secured an armed rebelsepoy .He later achieved the rank of
sergeant . He diedLondon, Ontario , Canada,28 January 1923 .References
