Ess Dee Aluminium Ltd., the flagship company of Dutta Group of Companies , is one of the India’s largest provider of packaging solutions with emphasis on Pharma market. The Group is poised to foray into food packaging also.
ESS DEE Aluminium Ltd has got two production facilities, one each at Daman and Goa and is in the process of setting up an additional facility at Daman. The facility located at Daman spreads across an area of convert|60000|sqft|m2|abbr=on. The plant, with an installed capacity of 9100 MTS per annum, is modelled on the latest generation CGMP practices and is one of its own kind in the aluminium foil industry. The other manufacturing unit at Kundaim in Goa, is housed in an area of convert|40000|sqft|m2|abbr=on. and has an installed capacity of 5400 MTS per annum.
Ess Dee Aluminium has already invested over Rs 100 Crore in setting up a thermo forming films plant for the pharmaceutical industry in Daman. The new plant will also offer cost-effective aluminium foil-based laminates to food and FMCG sectors. Many products that Ess Dee intends to make are import substitutes and will facilitate expansion of usage. The company faces a situation where demand for packaging products outstrips supply. Fresh capacities are needed to wipe out the backlog.
Presently, Ess Dee exports mainly to Europe, South America, Asia and Africa The company is planning to invest $40-45 million to set up a plant in Dubai and also looking to acquire a company in South Africa. Ess Dee is in the process of setting up a plant in Sikkim where already major pharma manufacturers have started their manufacturing facility. Now, the company is looking at expanding overseas. Overseas expansion will be funded partly through internal accruals and if need be, the company may consider FCCB route. Enthused by a fast-growing pharma and the FMCG packaging market, Ess Dee has been on a capacity ramp up mode during the past one year.
The Rs 130-crore Ess Dee Aluminium has an ambitious growth agenda. To finance expansion projects, the company has hit the market in December 2006, with maiden public offer through the 100 percent book-building route. The issue was oversubscribed 8 times.

Awards and Recognitions
Recently, the company and its 100 per cent subsidiary -- Flex Art Foils -- received the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration for all its six plants in the country. This is for the first time that such an approval has been given to six plants of a single entity.
