"Tragedy in Jaburo" is the twenty-ninth episode [ [http://www.mahq.net/animation/gundam/msgundam/msgep29.htm Gundam: Tragedy in Jaburo ] ] of "Mobile Suit Gundam".

Plot summary

"White Base" reaches the Federation HQ at Jaburo, unaware that Char has been following them. A concealed port hatch opens and the ship enters the underground base. Char orders his men to pinpoint the location where "White Base" vanished from radar.

Inside the base, Bright meets Lt. Woody Malden, who is in charge of repairs. Woody asks for Amuro, and is surprised that he is so young. Woody tells Amuro that Matilda talked a lot about him.

Meanwhile, a "Fat Uncle" transport ship delivers Char the new mobile suit Zock along with two Goggs from the California Base. The squadron is ordered to find and entry point into Jaburo.

Inside, Amuro, Kai and Hayato have just come out of a series of physicals involving mental tests. Amuro approaches Woody and asks how well he knew Matilda. Woody says they were to be married after Operation Odessa; Matilda wanted the "White Base" crew to attend. Amuro blames himself for letting Matilda die, angering Woody, who says that Amuro did the best he could. Woody makes it his quest to repair the "White Base" because Matilda loved the ship.

Bright and Mirai have a meeting with senior officers. They’re informed that they will join Tianem‘s fleet shortly. The officers give their condolences to Mirai for her father’s death but Mirai prefers not to talk about that.

The alarm sounds when the Zock and Goggs attack. However, the Jaburo defense forces decide not to retaliate so as not to reveal their location. Outside the base, a fleet of "Gaw" carriers carpet bomb Jaburo’s surface.

The "White Base" crew returns to ship. The Federation forces launch fighters to repel the invading forces which include Zakus, Doms, and Goufs. Kai launches in the Guncannon and vows to defeat Zeon so people like Miharu aren’t caught in the middle and won’t have to die. Hayato launches in the Guncannon and joins Amuro in the Gundam and Sayla in the G-Bull. They’re deployed near the base’s entrance to intercept the enemy. Sayla sees what appear to be several Gundams; Amuro explains they’re the new mass-produced GM mobile suits.

Outside, Char launches in his custom-built red Z’Gok, accompanied by two other Z’Goks. Both of the Z’Goks are destroyed immediately and Char joins the Zock and Goggs team. Amuro and Sayla think on how they can’t fight so as not to reveal the entrance. A Gogg then blasts the door and Kai destroys it on sight with the Guncannon.

An irate Woody vows not to let anyone damage "White Base". Amuro and Sayla return to ship to convert the G-Bull into the Gundam. Amuro launches again, and sees a GM being destroyed by the red Z’Gok. He is sure that the pilot is Char. Then, he sees a Fanfan hovercraft nearby piloted by Woody engaging the same red Z’Gok. The Fanfan proves to be no match for the red mobile suit and is smashed.

A vengeful Amuro engages the Z’Gok and damages its camera, obligating Char to retreat. Amuro follows but is attacked by the Zock, who is covering for Char. The Gundam destroys the Zock and when he goes to look for Char he has already escaped. Fraw informs Amuro that the battle is over.

Back on the bridge, Bright is surprised that Woody died protecting "White Base", the ship his once future bride loved so much. Mirai and Sayla ponder on the attachments that men sometimes have. Amuro tells Bright that Char is back, because of the red mobile suit he saw in battle. Sayla is shocked as she hears this, dropping her drink.
