Zhaquan (pronounced IPA| [tʂʰatɕuan] ) is a popular style of northern Chinese kung fu that originated in the Shandong province during the
Tang Dynasty . The style was first taught by a martial arts general named Hua Zongqi, who had to stay behind enemy lines after being wounded in battle. The residents that healed him were taught his style of martial arts,Jiaziquan . This style was the recipient of so many students that Zongqi's brother, Zha Yuanyi, was called to help teach it. The two had become an acclaimed pair of kung fu teachers.
