Patrick Mahoney

Patrick Mahoney VC (1827 - 30 October 1857) was born Waterford and was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Details

He was about 30 years old, and a sergeant in the 1st Madras Fusiliers (later The Royal Dublin Fusiliers), Indian Army of the East India Company during the Indian rebellion of 1857 when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 21 September 1857 at Mungulwar, India, Sergeant Mahoney with the Volunteer Cavalry, helped in the capture of the Regimental Colour of the 1st Regiment Native Infantry.

He was killed in action, Lucknow, India, on 30 October 1857.
