Ryan Gilligan (born January 18,1987) is an English footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for League One team Northampton Town.

Gilligan was part of the promotion-winning team of 2005-06. He has been quite popular with Stuart Gray, and has started games far more often than under former manager John Gorman, in fact, he started for 7 matches in a row towards the end of the 2006-07 season, and this is likely to continue into the future with the retirement of Ian Taylor.

Gilligan penned a new two year deal on 9 May, 2008, which will keep him at the club until 2010 with many people involved with the football club expected him to leave encluding the manager after he had attracted clubs such as Ipswich Town and Burnley with a string of highly promsing performances from the heart of the Northampton midfield having been descirbed him as a smilar type of player to Paul Scholes and also Tim Cahill, he will be looking to keep a high level on consistency for the forth coming season.

His father, Jimmy Gilligan, was also a professional footballer, most notably at Cardiff City.
