Non endorsed ALP supported "independent" candidate
- Non endorsed ALP supported "independent" candidate
The Victorian Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) chooses to participate in Victorian local government elections either by declaring that the party has officially endorsed one candidate as its sole candidate for a vacancy or by declaring that the party will support one or more "non endorsed ALP supported candidates" for a vacancy. Non endorsed ALP-supported candidates may be non-ALP members.
A non-endorsed ALP-supported candidate elected to office is obliged to caucus withALP-endorsed or other ALP-supported councillors in regard to the election orappointment of councillors to official positions and delegations. It is further expected thatsuch elected candidates will act within ALP policy parameters as determined by StateConference for the duration of their term of office.
A non-endorsed ALP-supported candidate elected to office may join the ALP Caucus within themunicipality but in doing so is bound to remain in that Caucus and abide by the Victorian ALP Municipal Caucus Rules for the duration of their term of office.
