Russia n entry in theEurovision Song Contest 1997 , performed in Russian byAlla Pugacheva .The song is a dramatic ballad. Pugacheva sings to a "
prima donna " and describes her desire to overcome struggles much in the way as the singer apparently has. She sings that the prima donna has an "injured soul" but is yet able to sing well. The song was performed twentieth on the night (following
Hungary 's V.I.P. withMiért kell, hogy elmenj? and precedingDenmark 'sKølig Kaj withStemmen I Mit Liv ). At the close of voting, it had received 33 points, placing 15th in a field of 25.Due to the rapidly-expanding Contest, the decision was taken to restrict entry to the 1998 Contest to those countries with the best average performance over the previous five years, a group which did not include Russia. Russia also opted out of the 1999 Contest, before re-entering the fold the following year.
Thus, the song was succeeded as Russian representative at the 2000 Contest by
Alsou with Solo.
