Fantasy Worldwide Film Festival

The Fantasy Worldwide Film Festival (FWIFFT) held in Toronto, Canada, is a unique international cinema event, and the only film festival of its kind bringing together various fantasy and science fiction genres. The festival is an independent not-for-profit organization that aims to build its reputation on showcasing filmmakers from around the world. The broad range of work celebrates the global imagination, legends, and science fiction.

Each fall, the festival screens Features, Documentaries, Shorts, and Animations. The schedule begins with a Gala Party and includes seminars and events which culminate in an awards ceremony. Awards are granted in each category including The People’s Choice Award and Special Recognition for a Local Filmmaker. Toronto is internationally renowned for its film festivals, and boasts the second largest per capita movie-going audience in North America.

The Executive and Artistic Director Johanna Kern, founded the festival in 2005. Having worked as an independent producer/director/writer on many film, television, and theatre productions; she has utilized her versatile background to develop projects that captivate audiences. In 2006, she stated, “We are excited to build on the success of the inaugural festival and have the opportunity to, once again, deliver empowering stories that explore mythological emotional and legendary roots of our human experience.”

Testimonials

“Fantasy is a truly universal language. It should be universally accessible. The Fantasy Worldwide Film Festival provides just that accessibility for film-makers and audiences from all over the world.” Karl Schroeder, fantasy/sci-fi writer

“Fantasy is a refreshing theme in this day of violence and horror films and needs to be supported for the health of our society. The fact that the Fantasy Worldwide International Film Festival welcomes all filmmakers and projects from low-budget to blockbuster, beginners to veterans, creates a very real and true opportunity for the fantasy genre. It is, after all, the beginner directors that offer new visions to filmgoers, and I personally know of many who wouldn’t get a chance to showcase their films if it weren’t for opportunities such as this one!” Tom Hillman, President, Ghost FX
