The Herschel Baronetcy, of
Slough in the County ofBuckinghamshire , was created in theBaronetage of the United Kingdom on17 July 1838 for John Frederick William Herschel, "Herschel, Sir John Frederick William 1792–1871 astronomer" (biography),NAHSTE project,University of Edinburgh , [http://www.nahste.ac.uk/isaar/GB_0237_NAHSTE_P0327.html NAHSTE-JHerschel] .] son of the famousastronomer Sir William Herschel , and a well-known astronomer in his own right.
