Chevrolet S-10 SS

Chevrolet S-10 SS

The Chevrolet S-10 SS is a high performance version of the discontinued Chevrolet S-10 truck. The version is notable for being substantially more powerful than the basic lineup. The S-10 model was discontinued in 2004.

History

The SS was built at the General Motors factory in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The SS was introduced in 1994. Fewer than 3000 SS's were produced yearly on the average. When introduced, the SS was sold in only three colors, Onyx Black, Summit White, and Apple Red.

The SS version was discontinued in 1998. In 1999, it was replaced by the S10 Xtreme.

Model specifications

The S-10 SS primarily had a higher-performance engine than the basic S-10 model. Basic models the choice between a 2.2L 4-cylinder or 4.3L 6-cylinder engine, while a high output 4.3 liter V6 (which was optional on regular S-10s) was specifically used in the SS version producing between 180 and 195 hp (which was class-leading at the time).

The S-10 SS included sport-tuned suspension, cosmetic changes such as a body-colored grille, body-colored bumpers, smaller mirrors, 16" wheels, special badges, and other sporty touches. All SS versions were available only with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a choice of step-side or fleet-side body styles.
