Pedro Fernández de Lugo (1475—1536) was the second military governor (
adelantado ) of theCanary Islands and governor ofTenerife andLa Palma , a title confirmed again by Charles I of Spain, in Barcelona, on August 17, 1519. The current Rightful Successor of the title "Adelantado of the Canaries Islands Tenerife and La Palma" is Felix Alberto Lugo 3rd [ [http://lugocrest.homestead.com/lugofamilymain1.html lugofamilymain ] ] Pedro Fernández de Lugo was the son ofAlonso Fernández de Lugo . Born inSeville , Pedro arrived atGran Canaria as a young child and later accompanied his father to expeditions toBarbary . In 1509, his father gave him some of the rights and powers over the coast ofAfrica that he had acquired in 1499. Pedro commanded the tower of Santa Cruz de Mar Pequeña and participated in expeditions against theBerbers alongside the Portuguese.At the age of sixty, he participated in an expedition to present-day
Colombia in theNew World . Backed financially by Cristóbal Francesquini and Juan Alberto Gerardini, aFlorentine residing in Tenerife from 1510, Pedro Fernández de Lugodeparted in 1535. He arrived atSanta Marta in 1536. He died there that year.References
