Peabody School

Peabody School

The Peabody School is a non-profit school for gifted students. Its location in Charlottesville, Virginia supports all of its students, ranging from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade. Students work in a supportive environment with small class sizes which create teacher-student communication. French is taught at all grade levels with most graduating eighth graders entering French III. All French teachers are native speakers who are essential in the annual French day celebration, and as of the 2008 year, students from 5th Grade and up have been given the opportunity to learn Spanish. The fast-paced learning environment also leads most graduating eighth graders into taking chemistry and a higher math course in ninth grade. Recent developments include the construction of a new lower school and gym at the current site. Middle school students partake in different electives ranging from photography, to art. Each Year the middle school bands and choruses go to Williamsburg and compete in the Music in the parks competition. The school motto is "education is not filling the pail, but lighting the fire." School colors are purple, green, and white. The school mascot is the penguin.
