Music in the Community

Music in the Community

Abingdon School Music in the Community is part of the Third Year Service and Citizenship Scheme, under English teacher Anne Soper. The Service Scheme gives Third Years (Year 9s) an opportunity to use the free time after school on a Tuesday to do something beneficial to the local community, and also to give them valuable experience in many areas.

Music in the Community is a small group of young musicians aged 13-14, directed by Michael Stinton, which provides entertainment in elderly care homes, such as Abingdon Court Nursing Home and Old Station House, on alternate Tuesdays in term-time, and occasionally performs in the school's chapel services. Rehearsals are from 3.50 until 5.00 on alternate Tuesday afternoons, although the members often practise together in their own time outside of formal rehearsal times.
