- Antonio Maria Abbatini
Antonio Maria Abbatini (c. 1595 – January 1680) was an Italian
composer , active mainly inRome .Abbatini was born in
Città di Castello . He served asmaestro di cappella at theBasilica of St. John Lateran from 1626 to 1628, and thereafter successively at four other Roman churches. He composed a good deal ofchurch music , and published three books of Masses, four ofPsalms , various 24-partAntiphon s (1630, 1638, 1677), five books ofMotet s (1635), and a dramaticcantata , "Il Pianto di Rodomonte" (1633). He also worked withAthanasius Kircher on the "Musurgia Universalis".In addition, he produced three operas: "Del male in bene" (Rome, 1654), which was one of the earliest
comic opera s, and historically important as it introduced thefinal ensemble ; "Ione" (Vienna, 1666); and "La comica del cielo", also called "La Baltasara" (Rome, 1668).References
