One, "Aptenia cordifolia", is a common garden ground cover and an introduced species on other continents.It is extremely drought-resistant, and grows profusely. Is covered with bright pink flowers most of the year in mild climates. Does not get woody, and can be trimmed back any time of year without damaging the plant. Can withstand summer temperatures over 100 degrees, but not frost or freeze.Fact|date=July 2007
