Victor-François, 8th duc de Broglie

Victor-François, 8th duc de Broglie

Victor-François Marie Léon, 8th duc de Broglie (born 25 March 1949, Paris), is a French aristocrat and current holder of the title duc de Broglie.

Eldest son of the French politician Jean de Broglie (1921–1976), Victor-François de Broglie acceded to the ducal title on the death without heir of his distant cousin, the Nobel Prize–winning physicist Louis, 7th duc de Broglie in 1987. (His father Jean's great-grandfather, Albert, 4th duc de Broglie, was Louis de Broglie's grandfather, and there was no other surviving senior male; for details, see the genealogy below).

The present duke is unmarried, and so are his next two brothers. However, there are several junior cousins, some with young sons.

The duc de Broglie is active in local right-wing politics in the Eure, and has served as mayor of the ducal seat of Broglie there.

His garden includes 650 varieties of heirloom tomatoes. [Susan Sampson, [http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1163502489291&call_pageid=968332188492 The tomato is prince's domain] , Toronto: "The Toronto Star", 15 November 2006.]
