The 1997 Fed Cup was the 35th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's
tennis . 96 nations participated in the tournament. In the final, France defeated the Netherlands at Brabant Hall in's-Hertogenbosch ,Netherlands on 4-5 October, giving France their first title.World Group I
Winning teams advance to World Group I Play-offs, losing teams play in World Group II Play-offs.
