Janet McDonald (b 1954 d. 2007) wrote
novel s for young adults as well as a memoir, "Project Girl", about her own upbringing and education. Her best-known children's book is "Spellbound", which tells the story of a teenaged mother who wins a spelling competition and a college scholarship. The book was named as theAmerican Library Association 's "Best Book for Young Adults" in 2002. McDonald lived inParis for most of her adult life and died there onApril 11 ,2007 , of cancer.She was a member of
