- Mick Kelly (footballer)
-
Mick Kelly was an Irish soccer player and rugby union player during the 1960s and 1970s.
Mick was educated at Blackrock College and won 2 Leinster Schools junior cups and one senior cup with them at rugby. An outstanding out half, his pace and powerful kick stood him well in both codes.
He began his football career at Manchester United but without making the breakthrough to the first team, he returned to Ireland and made his league debut for Bohemians on January 18, 1970 scoring in a 3-0 win over Dundalk. He immediately established himself at Dalymount Park and played all 6 games in Bohs' FAI Cup winning campaign of 1970. The following season he continued to impress but that was to be his last in football as he quit to concentrate on rugby.
He made 48 appearances (including 2 in European competition) for Bohs in all competitions, scoring 16 times.
Mick died at the age of 47 in 1997.
