Joined Indian National Congress.Active in Quit India movement in 1942, imprisoned by British regime.Trade Union leader.

Supported Indira Gandhi in the Congress split of 1969 and 1978.

Elected 1977 to Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Dharavi in Mumbai on a Congress (I) ticket.Minister of State for Housing, 1977-1980 under Chief Minister #REDIRECT Sharad Pawar.Subsequently, lost contest for Mahim assembly seat, 1980 vs. F.M. Pinto (Independent)

Later Chairmhan, Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Board (MHADA).

Lost 1987 election vs. Ramesh Y. Prabhoo of Shiv Sena. Subsequently, the election was invalidated in Kunte v.
