Eveready East Africa is a remnant of the historic Anglo-American
Eveready company. It was founded in 1901 as the 'American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company Ltd'. Its export subsidiary was calledB.E.R.E.C. and formed in 1906. Both firms also had factories inCanada and theUnited States . Eveready also had a stake in Ireland'sP. R. Mallory and Co Inc afterWorld War II . Eveready andB.E.R.E.C. also made torches, radios and occasionally eventelevision s during the 1950s and 1960s. Both firms were later bought out byEnergizer Holdings . Eveready abandoned production in the UK in 1980 due to falling sales.ources
