Blyvooruitsig

Blyvooruitsig

Blyvooruitzicht is a small mining town approximately 3.5km south west of Carletonville, Gauteng, South Africa. The town grew from housing provided to the mining community. The town has its own golf course and a recreation club all put in place by the Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mine (BGM).

Blyvooruitzicht is surrounded by numerous other mining towns in the Carletonville gold mining area of which a few are Elandsrand, Doornfontein, Western Deep Levels, West Driefontein and East Driefontein. A former mining town, Deelkraal, has become a mainly residential area since the mine there was flooded.

There are two primary schools in the town, an Afrikaans school called Blyvooruitzicht Laerskool and an English school called Rocklands Primary. Rocklands Primary also has a pre-primary school in its vicinity.

A sink hole incident at Blyvooruitsig in 1964 claimed the lives of a family as the house they were sleeping in suddenly disappeared. A memorial stone to them also was erected on the site.
