- FOMCA
Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations (FOMCA) is a national non-governmental organisation that is voluntary, non-profit and ono political. It is an umbrella body of registered consumer associations in
Malaysia . FOMCA links the activities ofconsumer associations in Malaysia as well as at the international level and works towards strengthening consumer protection through advocacy, lobbying, networking, representation, campaigning and education.FOMCA's work is focussed on empowering consumers in the context of a developing country with a growing consumerist society. In this regard, it goes beyond the traditional role of consumer protection in the marketplace, which has been called the "value for money" approach, instead FOMCA adovocates "value for people", "value for environment" and "value for money" paradigm.
The first President of FOMCA was Dato' Mohamed Sopiee Sheikh Ibrahim(1973-1974).Tara Singh Gill became the next President of FOMCA (1974-1981).Bishan Singh Bahadur became the third President of FOMCA (1981-1988) followed by Chua Kim Tee (1989-1991) and then Prof. Dato' Mohd Hamdan Hj. Adnan (1991-2004).Datuk Marimuthu Nadason is now the president of this association (2004-now).
Datuk Marimuthu Nadason came from Taiping,Perak.
FOMCA's role is thus to
* address and advocate the consumer interest in order to promote consumer welfare.
* resolve consumer issues through policy development and advocacy.
* provide representation for its members to deal with government.
* disseminate information and undertake consumer education.External links
