Corbett was 28 years old, and a Private in the 3rd Battalion, The
King's Royal Rifle Corps ,British Army during theOccupation of Egypt when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.On
5 August 1882 atKafr Dowar ,Egypt , during a reconnaissance, a lieutenant was mortally wounded - he fell in the open and there was no time to move him. Private Corbett therefore asked, and obtained permission to remain by him, and although under constant fire, he at once tried to stop the bleeding of the officer's wounds. When orders to retreat were received, Private Corbett helped to carry the officer off the field.Further information
Corbett was one of eight men whose VCs were forfeited. He was stripped of the medal on
30 July ,1884 after being convicted of embezzlement and theft from an officer.Alias: David Embleton. He was born on
