Overview
Datasynapse's GridServer product is used by many Financial Services companies as a platform to do distributed computing.A newer product FabricServer virtualizes applications running on Application Servers like Weblogic, WebSphere, JBoss etc.
History
DataSynapse was foundered by 2 ex-Investment Bankers with an idea to speed up calculations by running them in parallel, distributed over multiple machines. The first product, LiveCluster was released in 2001. This was written in Java which was innovative at the time as most investment banks used C++ to perform calculations. The product was successfully sold to a number of large investment banks. In 2004, the product was renamed GridServer as "Grid" became more descriptive of the product. .NET Support was added to the C++ and Java support. The market was expanded beyond Investment Banks to Insurance, Energy trading etc. Integrations with applications such as Calypso, Sunguard etc were developed. GridServer was developed to support larger and larger grids of computers. Today grids of over 30,000 machines are supported.
In 2007, a second product, called FabricServer was annouced that used the Grid Infrastructure to run Application Server-type applications in a dynamic fashion. Applications are installed in FabricServer instead of directly on a Server. Integration with Virtalization environments like VMware have also been developed.
In 2008, the company evolved it's message to "Dynamic Application Service Management" to reflect the industry trend to on-demand/utility/virtual computing.
