Doodoo Wah

Doodoo Wah is a folk music duo consisting of Ron DeLacy and Dave Cavanagh based in Columbia, CA, which has been performing and recording since 1990. The two men have written and recorded many songs that have been played on Dr. Demento's weekly syndicated radio program, and their songs have been recorded by other artists including Dr. Elmo, Pinkard & Bowden and Ray Stevens. They have also been favorably reviewed by writers for the "High Sierra Music Chronicle" and the "Washington Post". They record on the Ballum Rancum Records label.

The pair have recorded both funny songs about current events (for example, "Hanky Panky in the White House," about the Monica Lewinsky scandal; "Lorena," about Lorena Bobbitt's mutilation of her former husband; and "Working for the Japanese," about the growing trend of United States firms being bought out by corporations based in Japan) and less topical subjects (such as "B.A.R.F. Construction," "Don't Pet the Dog," and "The Big Five-O," a song about aging), as well as more serious songs ("Brother Jol," a song in memory of a friend who died of cancer). They also record radio commercials for businesses in their area, featuring original songs and patter, through their advertising arm, Doodoo, Jepson & Wah, and have won two Addy Awards for their work. They support their recordings by performing in live shows, predominantly along the West Coast but occasionally elsewhere in the USA.

Background

Cavanagh is a professional musician, while DeLacy moonlights as a performer and works as a reporter for the Modesto Bee newspaper. DeLacy is chief songwriter for the group and has written much of its output, some based on his own experiences as a veteran journalist (one song, "Odor in the Court," is based on an actual criminal court case he covered in which the prosecutor's excessive flatulence caused the judge to clear the courtroom).
