Albert Wagner (veteran)

Albert Wagner (veteran)

Albert Frederick 'Jud' Wagner (September 5, 1899 - January 20, 2007) was the last surviving Marine American veteran of the First World War. Wagner was born on a farm in Missouri. In 1916, at age 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps. By the beginning of the U.S. involvement with World War I in 1917, Wagner was stationed in St. Louis, Missouri. Jud was finally shipped to France in 1918, and served against the Germans. During the war, Wagner saw action at Belleau Wood. After the war, Wagner stayed in the Marine Corps until he was discharged in 1919 after serving three years. He is claimed to be related to actor Robert Wagner, who also served in the Marine Corps. Jud died in his home in Kansas at age 107. His funeral took place five days later, on January 25, 2007, and he had a gun salute.
