Albert Frederick 'Jud' Wagner (
September 5 ,1899 -January 20 ,2007 ) was the last surviving Marine American veteran of the First World War. Wagner was born on a farm inMissouri . In 1916, at age 17, he joined theUnited States Marine Corps . By the beginning of the U.S. involvement with World War I in 1917, Wagner was stationed inSt. Louis, Missouri . Jud was finally shipped toFrance in 1918, and served against the Germans. During the war, Wagner saw action at Belleau Wood. After the war, Wagner stayed in the Marine Corps until he was discharged in 1919 after serving three years. He is claimed to be related to actorRobert Wagner , who also served in the Marine Corps. Jud died in his home inKansas at age 107. His funeral took place five days later, onJanuary 25 ,2007 , and he had a gun salute.References
