Kingston Mines

The Kingston Mines is a blues nightclub located in Chicago, Illinois. It was first established on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago in 1968, where it began as a coffee house, but was soon converted into “Chicago’s blues Center”, playing traditional Chicago blues. Although Chicago blues has its original roots in the Southern Delta tradition, blues music in Chicago changed to reflect the city’s bustling electric urban surroundings. This type of blues is featured in Kingston Mines today.

Kingston Mines was the first club to bring blues music to the north side of Chicago. Its pioneering efforts introduced Lincoln Park and the surrounding areas of the city of Chicago to the culture of blues. Now known internationally, Kingston Mines is part of the famous Chicago Blues Center. Also know as Blues Alley, which is shared by B.L.U.E.S., another Chicago blues bar located across the street.

In 1980, Kingston Mines moved to its present location at 2548 N. Halsted Street where it continues to be an essential landmark in the world of music and the pride of a city know for its blues. Kingston Mines is also know for its late hours on the weekends and is a frequent stop for many north-siders after a majority of the bars in the area close at 2 AM. Kingston Mines stays open until 5 AM, the kitchen stays open the entire time, and blues is presented on two stages. The bar is open seven nights a week.
