August 16 ,1948 inJonquière, Quebec ) is aQuebec politician andteacher . He is the current Member ofNational Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Orford in theEstrie region. He represents theQuebec Liberal Party and was a former Minister of theJean Charest Cabinet .Reid went to
Université Laval in 1970 and obtained abachelor's degree in sciences. He went to study atUniversité de Paris XI and obtained adoctor's degree in math sciences in 1974.Reid was a computer
councilor atIBM Canada and was a teacher in administrativedata processing , at theUniversité du Québec à Chicoutimi . He was later a teacher at theBusiness Administration department at theUniversité de Sherbrooke . He would also become the vice-dean, the vice-rector and rector of the University. He was therector from 1991 to 2001. He was also a DelegateDeputy Minister atIndustry Canada . In the community he was an administration member of the Petit Theatre de Sherbrooke.Reid was elected in Orford in the 2003 elections and was named the Education Minister. Durant his mandate, his Ministry cut 103 millions dollars in
bursary funds topost-secondary education students which prompted the 2005 strike in which 200 000 students went on strike and 100 000 of them staging a large protest on March 16, 2005 in downtown Montreal. In March 2005, he was replaced byJean-Marc Fournier and was named the Minister of Government Services. He was removed from Cabinet one year later. He was re-elected in the 2007 elections.External links
