Phillip Brown began his career defeating Billy Joe Thomas. 19 more wins and 2 draws came, and soon he would fight Gerry Cooney. Despite Cooney having devastating punching power, he had just lost to Larry Holmes, so his confidence may have been shaken and might have given him trouble. However, the fight resulted in Philip Brown getting knocked out in 4 rounds. Brown lost his next fight to Frank Bruno, but won his next 8 fights. Strangely, he lost his next 10, and that seemed to be enough to convince him to retire. Overall, he compiled a record of 30 wins (17 by knockout), 12 losses, and 2 draws.
