Valerie Sanderson (born 1960,
Nottingham ) was one of the original presenters onBBC News 24 when it launched in 1997.Early life
She studied at
St Andrew's University , then did a postgraduate degree at the (Baptist )Emory University inAtlanta, Georgia .BBC
She joined the BBC in 1985 as a producer on Radio 4's
Today programme . She has been a reporter on the "Today" programme and BBC Breakfast News. She could often be seen presenting the 1-4pm slot on News 24 alongsideBill Turnbull orChris Eakin . She has now left the channel. She was also on the Spotlight programme based inPlymouth from 1989. She helped to launchRadio Five Live in 1994. As of April 2008, she has been presenting World Briefing on the BBC World Service.Prior to joining News 24 she was a regular presenter on the regional program
Spotlight .She has been the partner of
Radio Four 'sToday program presenterJohn Humphrys since c. 1987. They have one son, Owen James, born 2 June 2000.
