Ferdinand ("Fred") Chaffart (b.
Antwerp ) is a Belgian businessman.Education
He obtained a Masters Degree in Economics and completed the Senior Executive Program at
Stanford University (United States ).Career
He started his career in the paint shop of his parents. In
1964 he started working at the Marketing Department ofProcter & Gamble and subsequently worked for several marketing bureaus and the marketing department of IPPA Bank. In1979 he starts working for the "Tiense Suiker" (E: Sugar factory ofTienen ), where he becomes CEO. In1989 , the company is sold toSüdzucker . From1990 until1998 he works for CBR Cement and theGenerale Bank (Fortis), where in both cases he becomes CEO. After the acquisition of Fortis by Suez in1998 , he leaves the company. He becomes President of the board of the "Gevaert holding" for a short while. In1999 the Belgian government aks him to manage thedioxin crisis. From 2000 until 2005, he was President of theEuropean League for Economic Cooperation .Currently he is a director of
