Francisco Lorite

Francisco Lorite

Francisco Lorite is an actor, writer-director from Spain.

Biography

Francisco Lorite grew up loving Sergio Leone movies and wanting to be Jean-Paul Belmondo. The only filmmaking school he ever attended was in his childhood living-room where he kept playing the same movies on the family VCR, sometimes watching them without sound to learn about camera placement or frame by frame to undertand editing. He wrote, produced and acted in his first film at 14. Several shorts on video and some awards later, he decided to leave Europe and take his chances in the USA. Not knowing the language, he taught himself English by reading voraciously and watching sitcoms on TV. While in NYC, he eventually appeared in several Off-Broadway plays (for which the New York Times dubbed him “quite an act” and El Diario/La Prensa “an undeniable presence”), some indie films and lots and lots of car commercials. He also became a member of the Shakespeare Lab at the celebrated Joseph Papp Public Theatre.

In 2005, Lorite wrote and made his directing debut with the ten-minute, off-kilter black comedy Cuco Gomez-Gomez Is Dead! The no-budget but highly stylized piece ended up screening over 150 times in the US alone and getting sold for broadcast. It won five awards in the 'Best film' and 'Best editing' categories, and was picked as one of IndieProducer's Top 10 of 2005. It received much press coverage because of Lorite’s directorial flair but also his unusual approach to producing: He asked his actors to be his crew and pitch in $100 each to jump-start the film…

Shortly after CUCO's success, Francisco Lorite founded Man In A Suit Productions, for which he wrote and directed the thinking man’s revenge flick RANDOM in 2007. A clear throwback to 70s-style American filmmaking as well as the French New Wave, it is also a very personal story, loosely inspired by a random stabbing suffered by Lorite while living on the East Coast.

Lorite has been featured on NBC’s “Today In NY” and Univision’s “Despierta America” as an up and coming actor. His work as filmmaker has been profiled in Screen International, Hollywood Scriptwriter Magazine, BACK STAGE Action Magazine, The South China Morning Post, BC Magazine, Hispanic Magazine, Spanix.com, LatinoLa.com and Latin Heat, among others, and on Byron Allen’s syndicated TV Show “Latin Lifestyle.”

Entrepreneur

In 2008, Francisco Lorite will be launching a line of humorous T-shirts he designed based on his experiences as an independent filmmaker in Hollywood.
