Cheltenham College . He was 28 years old, and alieutenant in the78th Regiment (laterThe Seaforth Highlanders Ross-shire Buffs, Duke of Albany's),British Army during theIndian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.On 29 July 1857 in the attack on
Oonao ,India , Lieutenant Bogle led the way into a loopholed house which was occupied by the enemy and from which a heavy fire harassed the advance of his regiment. The lieutenant was severely wounded in this action.He later achieved the rank of
