CHSTV is a news program produced by the students of
Carlsbad High School inCarlsbad, California . All broadcasts are completely run, edited and performed by students and although this leads to the occasional blooper, overall their quality is extremely high for a student television program. The program debuted in2001 .At the end of its first year on the air, CHSTV won four prestigious
National Student Television Awards from theNational Academy of Television Arts and Sciences . In June2003 , four CHSTV students were flown toWashington, D.C. to accept the awards.After its second year of broadcasting it won two additional National Student Television Awards (Regional Winners), the iVIE Grand Recognition Award, and the
San Diego County Fair's Best of Show Award.Time Warner Cable carries CHSTV live Mondays and Fridays at 9:25AM PT on Time Warner channel 3. CHSTV is also seen live at that time every weekday through their official website. The website also has past episodes available in the archive section.CHSTV has interviewed several celebrities, such as
Robin Williams ,Katie Couric ,Tom Hanks ,Ryan Stiles ,Larry King , andJason Alexander .CHSTV has also been included in an article in the November 25, 2002 edition ofNewsweek .In early 2006 three CHSTV students won emmies. CHSTV also won the IVIE award for high school journalism. Most CHSTV students start their journalism careers in middle school at Valley Middle School, where they have their own news program, VMSTV.
In 2007 CHSTV won two additional emmies for Technical Achievement and for a story on a sobriety checkpoint.Also in 2007, CHSTV's Teacher, Doug Green was nominated as the Studen television president.
During the 2007 wildfires in southern California, Multiple CHSTV students covered various spots as the firestorm raged on. One story by reporter Max Miller was seen by 7 million viewers on the Channel One network.
