WPAL was Charleston's first radio station targeting
African-Americans . William Saunders bought the station in 1985 after being a part owner since 1971, and he addedWPAL-FM in 1994. In 1998, he sold WPAL-AM toClear Channel [http://www.blackenterprise.com/ArchiveOpen.asp?Source=ArchiveTab/2003/05/0503-26.htm] , which changed its letters to WSCC and its format tonews/talk Later, Clear Channel added the 94.3 frequency, which becameWSCC-FM , where the talk format continues. The station was afterwards a left-leaningnews/talk station that aired liberal talk shows fromAir America Radio ("Morning Sedition "), ("The Majority Report ") andJones Radio ("The Stephanie Miller Show ", "The Ed Schultz Show ") using the branding "Progressive 730". In 2005, it began carrying theMusic of Your Life standards feed, which was aired until the Spanish "Viva 730" format began in March 2008. It was announced that the station was to be sold byClear Channel Communications . At a certain point in 2008, the station dropped all programing and went silent.References
