The Astley Green Colliery Museum is run by the Red Rose Steam Society Limited in Astley Green near Tyldesley in Greater Manchester (gbmapping|SJ70509996). History
The purpose of Astley Green Colliery was to exploit coal seams convert|30|m|ft underneath the peat bog Chat Moss, and was driven by the high demand for coal in the late 19th and early 20th century and the exhaustion of supplies of coal in the Irwell valley.
