Abraham Sowden

Abraham Sowden was a first class cricketer who played 8 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1878 to 1887 and for T Emmett's XI in 1881 and an England XI against the Australians in 1902 when he was 48. He was a successful batsman for the Bingley club from 1875-93 and for Bradford 1893-1901. Born on December 1, 1853 in Great Horton, Bradford, and registered as Abram Sowden, he was a worsted manufacturer by trade and died on July 5, 1921 in Heaton.

In 10 first class matches he scored 163 runs in all, with a best of 37 against Kent CCC, and took 1 catch. He bowled right arm fast with a round arm action and conceded 70 runs without success.
