William Smith was a first class cricketer who played 11 matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1865 to 1897. A right handed batsman, he scored 260 runs with by far his best a knock of 90 against Lancashire CCC in a Roses Match. He took 8 catches in the field but did not bowl. He was born on November 1, 1839 in Darlington, Co Durham and died on April 19, 1897 in South Bank, Middlesbrough.
