Pandit surya deo sharma

Pandit Surya Deo Sharma was a Hindu leader and the Caretaker of Pitambara Peeth Datiya after the death of Shri Shri Guru Maharaj and founder of Arya Veer Dal (an organization for Hindu Youth). ["Hindu Swaraj" newspaper] . He was one of the accused in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. [Gandhi wadh Aur main- By Mr. Gopal Godse]

He was put on trial as a conspirator for the planning and helping the accused Nathuram Godse, allegedly providing him with guns. The pistol which was used to assassinate Gandhi was from the Royal Arms depot of The Scindhia State - the former rulers of Gwalior.

Pandit Surya Deo Sharma hailed from Kathaout Village Tehsil mohamdabad of Gazipur district in Uttar pradesh [land records of mohamdabad tehsil in Gazipur district] ] and his family were ruined in the Mutiny of 1857 in which his family fought against the British.

The family youth destroyed the airstrip which was built by the British military as the second line of defence for the world war. [news articles & letter copy of FIR: Thana Mohamdabad, District gazipur. U.P.]

In the generation of Pandit Surya Deo Sharma his family elders organised the army of Young Bhumihars and successfully stopped the operations of Royal Air Force by blocking and damaging the airstrip and throwing out the troops. The result was that Muslims of the Gauspur Village escorted the police and all the revolutionaries were jailed, houses looted women ruined. This was the reason for Pandit Surya Deo Sharma throwing out the swing against the Muslims.

Later Pandit Surya Deo Sharma became a popular Hindu leader in the State of Gwalior under the patronage of Maharaja of Gwalior late jiwaji rao scindhia. The Maharaja was himself very sad with the british governence as a muslim Commandent was made incharge of the Royal forces who did not abide to the Rulings of the Maharaja. The situation had detoriated to the extend that the Maharaja was not able to celebrate his birth day with fanfare, which was lately regretted by the late Rj mata -Vijaya raje scindhia. The Maharaja of Gwalior was of ideology that the democracy should not come in the play and the country should be goverened by the parliament of Upper house only where the Kings & Maharajas would be elected or nominated as the sole representatives of the people they ruled. As an educated Maharaja he was more aligned towards the British rulers who were also his financial guides for the huge amount that he had invested in the companies with British origin. He also insisted on having regional armies instead of one centralised army control. One theory propagated by the Muslim rulers to have a policing system based on the Religion that is there will be one Hindu police which will take care of territories with Hindu domination and a Muslim police to be posted in Muslim dominated areas was also seconded by him. That time State of Gwalior was in strict control of Muslim administrators appointed by the British rulers. The Muslim goons use to pick up Hindu Unmarried girls from the road and ruin them. This generated great anguish amongst the Hindus. In those circumstances Pandit ji as he was popularly called united the Hindu Youth and started ambush attacks to rescue the Hindu girls from the cluches of Muslim land lords and their goons. Pandit Surya Deo Sharma organised an Army of young Hindus by the name "ARYA VEER DAL" the group worked on procurement of Arms & Ammunition and through out Muslims from the city of Gwalior. This resulted in a tug where the Muslims were confined to their territories. Pandit ji decided to give this battle a final call and a "munadi" (public announcement) was given to all the Muslims to leave the state of Gwalior or face a House arrest for unlimited period. Large clashes took place between the two groups. But finally Hindus won and Muslims went to near by state of Agra, Delhi, Jhansi and Bhopal. Pandit ji was jailed by the Police later but released on bail.

National poet Suryakant Tripathi Nirala wrote and dedicated one poem of his to this subject which was published in a news paper in Allahabad Titled "Hindutva ka Surya" Pandit ji then fought an election for the Municipal counceller and won with big margin. Later he fought for the By-election for the legislative seat of sewdha an Assembly seat from the Vindhya Pradesh, which was later merged with the state of Madhya Pradesh to form one Big state in November 1 1951 Pandit ji was re-elected as member of legislative assembly twice from Sewdha and once from Datia in M.P.

After completing the terms as a politician he turned to Datiya-the abode of his spiritual Guru- Shree Guru Maharaj of Datiya (the mentor of his spiritual life). He turned to a peaceful life after Shree Guru Maharaj the founder of Shree PitambaraPeeth in Datia appointed him as the Care taker of the religious Peeth. He excelled in the science of Tantra and Mantra. In the guidance of Shree Guru Maharaj he worked on many Tantrik Pooja's for the welfare of the people one such pooja was organised against the Army of China when the country was attacked, testimony of the same is the Yagya shala at the revered peeth.

The life and works of pandit suryadeo sharma have been written of by Mahakavi "HRIDAYESH" in the Book "Ek Jwalant Vyaktitva".
