Smilebit is a Japanese computer and video game developer founded in 2000. It was formerly
SEGA 's R&D division known as AM6. Smilebit was asecond-party developer for SEGA best known for creating the "Jet Set Radio " franchise of games. It included several former members ofTeam Andromeda , another of Sega's second-party developers, which disbanded in 1998. Smilebit was folded back into Sega on July 1, 2004 following the merge between the two companies, SEGA and SAMMY, a Japaneseholding company (Sega Sammy Holdings ), was formed.Games developed by Smilebit (Ltd.)

The original Arcade Virtua Striker series was developed by
Sega-AM2 (another Sega development studio) to Sega's Arcade Board "Model" Hardware and released in 1995 (Japan). Later the series moved to "Amusement Vision" with Virtua Striker 3. In January 2004 the "Virtua Striker" franchise became part of Smilebit's portfolio.Smilebit's franchise
Jet Set Radio was released to Nintendo's GameBoy Advance in the US in June 23, 2004. This game wasn't developed by Smilebit. Released in the US under the titleJet Grind Radio , this game was developed byVicarious Visions and published byTHQ .
