Upon graduating, Walker was selected 39th overall by the
San Jose Earthquakes in the2003 MLS SuperDraft , and signed to adevelopmental contract . Although Walker saw little playing time in 2003, he emerged as a sparkplug late in the season, finishing the regular season with four goals in just 365 minutes; his performances earned him a significant part in San Jose's playoff run, where he started three of four games, registering one goal and two assists as the team won theMLS Cup . Unfortunately for Walker, coachFrank Yallop left at the end of the year, and his replacement,Dominic Kinnear , was reluctant to play the relatively raw Walker. So, after a tremendous run in 2003, Walker played in only ten games in 2004, starting two, and registered no points. After 2004, Walker was left exposed for the MLS Expansion Draft, and 15th overall by Chivas USA.
