Hassanali has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Science in Systems Planning and Optimisation from the University of London and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London. and he completed his secondary schooling at Queen's Royal College in Port of Spain. He has three children, Behzad, Faria and Aadam.
